Ideally, if you receive unsolicited emails from an unwanted sender, you can either choose not to reply to them or click the “unsubscribe” link if the option is in the message.
But emails from individuals often don’t include an option to unsubscribe, and some people simply won’t get that prompt if you don’t reply to their messages.
We’ve previously written about how to block people who call or text you, but another type of unwanted communication you can receive has to do with emails.
If you use the contact block feature for a contact and put their email address on that contact card, it will block emails from them.
But chances are a lot of the junk email you’re receiving is from people you don’t have contacts set up for, so you might be wondering if there’s another way to do it.
Fortunately, you can check out our full guide below with photos to help you get there.

How to stop someone from emailing you on iPhone
The steps in this article were completed on an iPhone 13 running iOS 16.4.
The same steps will work for other iPhone 13 models as well, including:
- iPhone 13 mini
- iPhone 13 Pro
- iPhone 13 Pro Max
Step 1: Open the Mail app.
Step 2: Find the email from the sender that you want to block, then swipe left on that message.
Step 3: Tap on the circle button with three dots inside.
Step 4: Scroll to the bottom of this list and select the “Block Sender” option.
This does not mean that it only blocks emails from the specified email address. If the same person, organization, or company sends you emails from a different email address, you will still receive those emails until you also block these additional senders.
You should now see a red circle with a diagonal line in the lower right corner of the message to indicate that future emails from this sender will be blocked.
If you decide later that you want to unblock the sender, you can swipe left on an email from it, tap the three-dot button, scroll down and select the Unblock sender option.
Now that you know how to block an email sender on iPhone 13, you can reduce the number of unwanted emails you receive.
