There are many ways to share files from iPhone. You can text them, email them, upload them to cloud storage, share links, etc.
But you can also use something called AirDrop, and it might be the quickest and easiest way to send a lot of photos or videos to someone if they’re nearby.
But when someone opens the app and uses the Share menu to AirDrop something for you, they’ll need to look for your name there.
This can be a problem if the AirDrop name on your iPhone is not accurate or useful.

How to change the name used for AirDrop on iPhone
The steps in this article were performed on an iPhone 13 running iOS 16.3.1.
Step 1: Find and select the Settings app icon on the home screen.
Step 2: Scroll down and select General.
Step 3: Click the About button at the top of the screen.
Fourth Step: Click on the “Name” button at the top of this list.
Step 5: Press the x to the right of the current name to delete it, enter a new name, and hit “Done” on the keyboard.

Note that changing the name of AirDrop will also change the name of Bluetooth and Personal Hotspot.

Now that you have the correct AirDrop name, you can tweak the setting to allow people to send you files if they can’t currently.
For someone to AirDrop files to you, AirDrop must be enabled on your device.
One way to confirm this is to go through the settings menu.
Step 1: Open the Settings menu.
Step 2: Select the “General” option.
Step 3: Tap on the AirDrop button.
Step 4: Choose your preferred option.
You can choose from the following AirDrop options:
- The receipt
- Communication only
- Everyone for 10 minutes (this might be Everyone, depending on which version of iOS you’re using).
If the person trying to send you files is in your contact list, the Contacts Only option is probably your best option.

How to toggle the AirDrop option from Control Center
The Control Center menu, which can be accessed by swiping down from the upper-right corner of the iPhone screen, contains several useful settings.
Among these options is a button that allows you to turn AirDrop on and off.
Step 1: Swipe down from the top right corner of the screen to open Control Center.
If your iPhone has a Home button, you’ll need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen.
Step 2: Tap and hold the Wireless Connections box in the top-left corner of the list.
Step 3: Tap on the AirDrop button.
Step 4: Select the desired AirDrop setting for your iPhone.
