How to create a list of places in Google Maps on iPhone

Google Maps is a great trip planner because it allows you to save your favorite places and create a custom list of them. In your cool collection, you can include places you’ve been to or places you’d like to visit and explore in the future. In addition, you can easily manage the places on your list and share them with others. With this guide, I will help you to create and manage a list of places in Google Maps on iPhone.

Search Lists in Google Maps on iPhone

1. Open the Google Maps app → tap Saved (
2. Now you can see ready made lists like Favourites, Want to Go, Travel Plans, Rated Places and Starred Places.

How to create a new list in Google Maps on iPhone

1. Go to Google Maps → Saved.
2. Click New List (+).

   

3. Name your list and write a description for it so you can remember why you created the list in the first place.
4. Also, choose the privacy settings for your list.
   • Private: If you make the list private, only you can view and edit the list.
   • Shared: Selecting this option allows you and others to view or edit your list.
   • Public: Your listing will be published on other Google services such as Maps, Search, or third-party sites with your name and profile picture.
5. Click Save.
6. Finally, a new list will be created in Google Maps on iPhone.

   

Add locations to lists on Google Maps

Now that you’ve created a new list for yourself, let’s add locations to it.

1. Open Google Maps and find the place you want to explore.
2. Touch a site in the search results list.
   You can see ratings, number of reviews, open or closed status along with timings.
3. Then click “Save” → select the desired list.
   By clicking on “New List” in the upper right corner, you can also create a new list.
4. Finally, click Finish.

It will return to the site page and display “Saved to favourites”.

Alternatively, if you want to add multiple sites to a particular list:

1. Go to Google Maps → Saved.
2. Now select the list to add places.
3. Click on Add.
4. Next, find a place and choose the place you want to explore. It will directly save your favorite places to your list. So find and click on places to expand your list.

How to add a note to your Google Places list on iPhone

Let’s say you have saved more than 50 points of interest in your Google Maps list. So it’s almost impossible to remember why you saved them in the first place.

That’s why when I save my favorite places on Google Maps, I add a note. Very clever, right?

1. Find the location you want and click Save.
2. On the Save to List page, select your list.
3. Click Add a note about this place? and insert a note.
4. Select Done to confirm.

   

You can also edit the note later. Here’s how:

1. Go to Saved → Open your list.
2. Scroll to find a location → tap Add Note below.
3. Make the changes and select Done.

How to edit a list in Google Maps on iPhone

You can always change the title or description of your listing. In addition, you can delete any unnecessary list. Please note that you cannot edit or delete preset lists on Google Maps.

1. Go to Google Maps → Saved.
   If you have a long list, tap More.
2. Select the icon with three dots next to the menu name.
3. Click Edit List.
4. Make the necessary changes → tap Save.

   

How to share a Google Maps list on iPhone

1. Go to Google Maps → Saved → tap on the three dots icon next to the list name.
2. Follow the same steps above and choose “Share List” from the menu.
3. Turn on the switch if you want others to change your list.
4. Click Continue.

   

5. Now the public sheet will open. Select the app where you want to share the link. That’s it!

Control who can edit shared lists

Oh! Do you share your personal lists with others? Don’t worry. You can return it at any time. Also, it allows you to remove edit access for people. This way you have complete control over your place listings.

1. Open the Google Maps app → Saved → tap the three dots icon next to your list.
2. Click Sharing Options.
3. You can now convert the public list back into a private list. Or make it public if you want someone to be able to find and subscribe to your list.
   • If you enable the Allow others to edit your list option, you can (+) invite editors from here.
   • To remove all current editors, disable this option.

     

How to subscribe to a list by link

When you start following a list created by others, their saved places will appear as suggested places on Google Maps.

1. Click on the link you received.
2. Now a popup will ask you if you want to become an editor or just want to view the list. Select width only.

   

3. Then tap on the three dots icon in the upper right corner.
4. Select Watchlist. Return to your saved pages to see all of your listings. Move the mouse down. You will find the listings you follow.

   

If you want to unsubscribe from the list, tap Saved → tap on the list you want to unsubscribe from → select Unsubscribe.

Hide or remove a listing in Google Maps

1. Go to Google Maps → Saved → tap on the three dots icon next to the list name.
2. Select Hide on Map.

To delete a list, repeat the same steps above and select Delete List from the context menu. Finally, confirm your choice by clicking Remove.
