If the photos taken with your iPhone’s front camera look different in the final version than when you took them, you might be wondering why this is happening.
When you look into the viewfinder of the camera app when you take a picture with your selfie camera, it will look as if you are looking into a mirror. We are used to seeing ourselves this way because that is how we look in the mirror, so it is not seen as upside down.
However, photos saved in the Photos app will not be mirrored in this way, which may result in you not liking the photo.
You can turn off the mirror camera on the iPhone by going to Settings > Camera > and turning on the front camera mirror.
Summary – How to disable camera flip mode for better selfies on iPhone
- I open Settings.

- Turn on the front camera in the mirror.
Our guide continues below with more information on how to disable the face camera on the iPhone 13, including photos of those steps.
The photos you take with your iPhone’s front-facing camera will differ from the actual photos that appear in the Photos app.
This is because what you see when you take a photo should look as if you were looking at yourself in a mirror.
But once the photo is taken, the iPhone will correct it to show the photo the way others see it.
For example, if you’re wearing a T-shirt with text on it, that text will appear in reverse when you look at yourself in the app’s viewfinder.
But the final image will reflect this text so it reads correctly.
There is a setting on the iPhone that you can adjust so that the final image looks exactly like the one you saw when you took the photo.

If you have an old iPhone that hasn’t been updated to iOS 14, you won’t see the option to mirror the camera.
If you want to adjust the image on an older iPhone, you’ll need to open the image in the Photos app and use the editing tools to flip the image manually.
On an iPhone, you can use the Photos app to flip a photo. The steps are:
- On your iPhone, launch the Photos app.
- Find the image you want to flip and tap to open it.
- In the upper right corner of the screen, click the Edit button.
- At the bottom of the screen, click the Crop and Rotate button.
- Tap the Flip button at the top left of the screen with your finger to flip the photo.
- To save the mirrored image, tap Done.
NB. The above procedures are for flipping a photo in the Photos app, but there may be other photo editing apps or tools available in the App Store that allow you to do the same thing.
