The quality of the video that you record on your iPhone can range from 720p to 4K.
The resolution used is determined by an option in the settings menu that you can adjust at any time.
This means that you can create HD videos with very large file sizes or lower resolution videos with smaller file sizes.
You can change the video recording resolution on your iPhone by going to Settings > Cameras > Video Recording > and selecting the option you want.

Your iPhone 7 can record HD video and save it to your Camera Roll. Video recording is done through the camera app and only requires switching the camera mode to the video option. But there are many different resolutions that your iPhone can record your videos to, so you may be wondering how to find out the resolution, or how to change it to a different one.
Our guide below will show you where to find this setting so that you can either improve the quality of the recorded video or reduce the amount of space your videos take up on your iPhone. The higher the resolution of the recorded video, the more space it will take up. Controlling this setting based on the type of video you’re recording allows you to make the most of the storage space on your device, providing the best combination of quality and efficient use of space.

How to change the resolution of recorded video on iPhone 7
The steps in this article were performed on an iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 10.2. Please note that not all iPhones can record videos in the same resolution. When you get to the last screen in the steps below, you will see the resolution options available on your device.
Step 1: Open the Settings menu.
Step 2: Scroll down and select the Photos & Camera option.
Step 3: Scroll down to the Camera section and select the Video Recording option.
Step 4: Choose the resolution you want to record video on iPhone.
Pay attention to the file size information below the resolution options as the recorded video files can be very large. For reference, the amount of space recorded video will take up on your iPhone at each resolution is:
- One minute of 720p HD video recording takes up 60MB of space
- One minute of 1080p video recorded at 30 frames per second (frames per second) will take up 130MB of space.
- One minute of 1080p HD video recording at 60 frames per second will take up 175MB of free space.
- One minute of 4K video recording at 30fps will take up 350MB of space.
This menu also contains the option to lock the camera lens (if your iPhone has multiple camera lenses). Some iPhone models have more than one camera lens on the back, and the device automatically switches between these lenses to get the best image quality. However, you can attach your camera to one of these lenses if you wish.
