WhatsApp Status allows users to upload photos or videos that automatically disappear after 24 hours. Many users are facing an issue where they are unable to view the status uploads of one of their contacts or, in some cases, all of their contacts. If you are one of them, we have prepared this guide to help you. Read on to find out how to fix WhatsApp status not showing on iPhone.
- Switch between cellular data and Wi-Fi
- Check if you have muted the user
- Check if you have been blocked by a user
- Ask a contact to review their privacy settings
- Force close WhatsApp and restart
- Update WhatsApp
- Restart your iPhone
- Try to check the status on WhatsApp Web
1. Switch between Cellular Data and Wi-Fi
You need an internet connection to view download statuses from your contacts. If you cannot view the download status or if the download status does not load, it may be due to network connectivity issues. In such cases, we recommend switching from Wi-Fi to mobile/cellular data or vice versa.
There is a good chance that you will be able to view downloadable states immediately after making this change. Slow internet speed sure causes a lot of problems. I’d rather be offline than have problems with a slow internet.
2. Check if you have disabled the user
Although the chances of this happening are very small, it is possible that you have muted the user by mistake and thus you are not able to view their WhatsApp status downloads. Downloading broken contacts status is now hidden in the Status tab under Disabled Updates. Here’s how to unmute a contact in WhatsApp.
- Launch WhatsApp → Go to the Status tab.
- Go to the Disabled Updates option at the bottom.
It will show all status downloads from offline contacts. - Now, if you have found the status of the contact you were looking for, tap on Disabled Contact Status.
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner.
- Select the Unmute popup → tap Unmute again to confirm.
3. Check if the user has blocked you
When you block a contact on WhatsApp, your profile picture, status upload information, etc. are hidden from the user. Similarly, if someone blocks you on WhatsApp, you will not be able to view this data either. We have a guide dedicated to helping you determine if you are blocked on WhatsApp.
Now, if you have not been blocked by a user and you still cannot view their status uploads, it may be because their status is hidden from you. If the person whose status you are trying to view is a good friend, you can ask them to review their privacy settings.
However, if this person is not a close friend, we advise you not to approach them. It will make the situation more difficult than it already is. Moreover, if the user deliberately hides his status upload from you, he may have his own reasons for this.
5. Force close WhatsApp and restart
Sometimes apps won’t update/reload when they’ve been running in the background for a long time. In this case, we recommend that you force close the app and restart it. Quitting and restarting WhatsApp can fix the problem and download status downloads from your contacts.
- Launch the app switcher on your iPhone.
All apps running in the background will appear. - Go to the WhatsApp window and swipe up to close WhatsApp.
- Restart WhatsApp → go to the Status tab. Check if status downloads are now visible.
6. Update WhatsApp
If you are not able to view status downloads even after restarting WhatsApp, it may be because you are using an outdated version of the app. It is also possible that the version of WhatsApp running on your device may have a software bug. Regardless, you should update WhatsApp to the latest version to ensure a smooth experience.
- Open the App Store on your iPhone → tap on the profile icon.
- Go to the list of upcoming updates and check if WhatsApp is on the list.
If you have automatic updates turned on, you will see upcoming automatic updates. - If an update is available for WhatsApp, tap the Update button.
Once the update is complete, restart WhatsApp and check if you are showing status downloads from contacts.
7. Restart the iPhone
Restarting the iPhone will also restart any active services running on the device. This can also resolve any network errors causing the problem. Resetting electronic gadgets is also one of the oldest and most reliable troubleshooting methods. We have a detailed guide to help you reset your iPhone no matter what model you have.
8. Try to check the status on WhatsApp Web
If none of the above tricks work, there might be a problem with WhatsApp only on your iPhone. The next best way is to login to WhatsApp Web and check the download status of your contacts. Here’s how to login to WhatsApp Web.
- Open a browser on your Mac or PC and go to web.whatsapp.com.
- Now open WhatsApp on your iPhone.
- Go to “Settings” and select the “Linked Devices” option.
- Here, click on Link Device and after biometric authentication, scan the QR code displayed on your Mac.
- When WhatsApp finishes downloading, tap the status icon on the left side of the screen.
You will now be able to view status downloads from your contacts.
